Triton Pool Tests

Submitted by prteam on Sun, 06/15/2008 - 23:21.

CUAUV is very excited about the success of last week's pool tests.  Early in the week, missions were run to use the altimeters to "bounce" off of the walls, and to hover over pipes and then follow the headings.  The team also tested a second pipe finding vision algorithm which yielded promising results.  Gathered categorized test images will also be beneficial for developing more vision algorithms in the coming weeks.

On Sunday, May 11, CUAUV ran its first powered water test of the 2008 competition vehicle Triton. During its entire duration in the Teagle Hall pool, the vehicle was able to move under its own power. Preliminary control tests also yielded promising results. Minor problems with the motor controllers were identified during the run, and have since been fixed. The team is very excited to build on this success!

Team members Kirill Kalinichev and Peter Sullivan display Triton's new battery pod boards.  The boards function in monitoring and battery safety.  Unlike the boards for last year's vehicle, these boards will be positioned on the top of the rack.  This ensures that the boards will not be damaged if a leak occurs in the battery pod.
